| New Beginnings
In the past months, during and after the installation of the new sewerage system, many of the projects planned for the restoration of the quays of Skibbereen have become difficult, more expensive and in some cases, impossible, due to the manner in which the sewer system has been laid on the riverbed. The river has effectively been narrowed considerably and rock armour to protect the sewer system has cut off the quays from the river. To counteract this setback, the committee have again come up with an imaginative solution to this problem by proposing the construction of a "mini" harbour in the Marsh, just downstream of the new pedestrian bridge and opposite the Long Quay. We are currently investigating the feasibility of this development. We have also been included in an Interreg bid for funding for this project and for other projects in the Marsh area. There will be more information on this bid in the coming weeks on this site.
